Kaiyusha Information for International Guests

Important Notice for International Divers

Our top priority is to ensure that your long journey to Japan results in spectacular underwater memories, rather than disappointment. To guarantee a safe and truly rewarding adventure for everyone, please note that our safety standards for travelers visiting from overseas differ from those for local residents.

1. Welcome to the Wild Nature (Not an Aquarium)

Mikomoto is not a controlled environment like an aquarium—it is unpredictable, wild nature. Located directly in the path of the mighty Kuroshio Current, this unique ocean highway brings an astonishing abundance of marine life. It is world-renowned not only for massive schools of hammerhead sharks, but also for other shark species and breathtaking walls of pelagic fish. However, this same oceanic force also creates exceptionally powerful currents and sudden downcurrents.

2. Our Dynamic Diving Style

Our main style here is an exciting, fast-paced drift dive where we ride these strong currents. While we occasionally hold onto rocks to watch the sharks, we don’t just drift passively to find the hammerheads and pelagic action; there are times when we must actively and aggressively swim against the current. Because we move dynamically in the open ocean to chase the action, basic physical stamina and solid swimming ability are absolutely essential to dive in Mikomoto.

3. What We Require (Solid Basics, Not Elite Skills)

Based on our experience, you do not need to be an “elite” or flawless diver to join us. However, because diving styles vary significantly around the world, every diver diving with Kaiyusha must be completely self-reliant.

We ask that you possess the solid baseline skills and mental composure needed to handle any situation under pressure—such as managing your own buoyancy in a sudden downcurrent and resolving equipment or physical troubles entirely on your own without relying on your guide.

To prevent emergency situations and ensure no one has their dive cut short, we strictly enforce our participation requirements. We want you to experience the very best of Mikomoto’s wild ocean with us and return home safely with unforgettable memories of your dive in Mikomoto.
